Tomorrow is St. Joseph’s Day, which, being a Solemnity, means that all  normal Lenten rules are set aside.  But liturgically, Solemnities begin the evening before.  In the universal Church, St. Joseph’s Day is a Holy Day of Obligation, though not in the USA.  Going to Mass this evening would satisfy the obligation.

So, could one argue that after 4:00 p.m. today, it would be permissible to eat meat, or to set aside any other Lenten penances?  Well, yes, one could argue that.  But would the argument hold?

Methinks the answer is no.
